Accidents, whether natural or man-made, can happen at any given time, and oftentimes, they happen with no warning at all. This seems to be the case for some companies like manufacturing companies and industrial factories, where hazardous working conditions and the lack of proper safety measures are commonly present.
Some hazards one can encounter inside a Manufacturing Companies:
- Falling from high platforms
- Tripping from slippery floors or unorganized stuff
- Electrical hazards from exposed wires and wrongly installed equipment
- Heavy machinery
- Hazardous materials
- Fire, flooding or other natural disasters
These and many others, including actions by other people and even the employees, can compromise any business and halter its operations.
What Can You Do
Truth is, there is no way accidents can be stopped from happening, but what you can do and must do is to implement protocols to somehow prevent them. This guarantees that if something unlikely happens, you can minimize its damage and interruption to your business, and that you’re still be able to operate effectively. Not having safety protocols to keep your premises safe could put your entire business in disadvantage. And any business downtime, even just for a few days, can be devastating and might take months to recover.
One example of safety protocol — having a reliable Fire Detection and Alarm System that can provide early and rapid notification to your team, and even to fire stations, thus fire can be prevented from starting and spreading quickly.
Securing Your Business
Knowing there are many accidents and risks that can happen, it’s very important that high risk companies adopt to more modern security practices and go beyond outdated processes. But how do you exactly do it?
First, you need to identify what type of accidents would be the most vulnerable to your business, from there you can devise a plan and move forward to creating security policies and protocols for your workplace. In the Philippines, many businesses lose many lives and millions worth of property every year due to fire accidents that are often caused by negligence. This is why Fire Detection and Alarm System is a mandatory requirement for every establishments.
Second, conduct regular risk assessment to ensure a safe and secure facility. Ask yourself the things that could go wrong and how can you prevent them? Here are the things you need to consider when creating risk assessment for your business:
- How can you secure the materials (raw and finished products)?
- How can you protect your facilities and equipment?
- How can you safeguard your company’s processes like employee information, financial records, product information or trade secrets?
- And most importantly, how can you protect the people working in the facility?
Third, create an Auditing Team or Risk Management Team who can track and measure the effectiveness of each security policy in place.
Lastly, make sure you get everyone in your team to prioritize your security efforts.
